GoFone: First WP-based handset without Phone branding spotted
HIGHLIGHTS

Future Windows Phone based phones to carry only "Windows" branding.

Earlier this week it was reported that Microsoft has plans to rebrand their Windows Phone based smartphones, and may drop “Nokia” as well as “Phone” from its upcoming smartphones. One of the first Windows Phone-based smartphones without Phone branding has already been spotted on the web. A British manufacturer called My Go has created a new website, revealing a new device — dubbed as the GoFone — sans Phone branding.

The GoFone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon smartphone running on Windows Phone 8.1. The phone boasts a 4.7-inch 720p HD IPS display. It will have an 8GB internal storage with microSD card support and come with 15GB of free cloud storage via One Drive.

The smartphone will offer an 8MP rear camera with autofocus and a fixed focus 2MP camera on the front. It will be available with dual SIM capabilities along with 3G support. The GoFone seems to be hosted on a microsite by British Telecom brand Go Phones. The site is marked as CONFIDENTIAL, which indicates that the site was not ready for Public.

Though Microsoft has not yet confirmed any rumors regarding their renaming of the “Windows Phone” brand, it seems that the change is imminent and might happen sooner than expected.

It was also widely rumored and reported that Microsoft will be killing the “Nokia” name as well, and future phones from the manufacturer may be branded only Microsoft. Nokia has been a ubiquitous name since early days of mobile. When it comes to phones Nokia is more widely known and respected than Microsoft and dropping that “Nokia” from its phone Microsoft may not be able to connect with people.

A year has not yet passed since Nokia was acquired by Microsoft for $7.5 billion and it seems like Microsoft shedding some old weight already. But will this make Microsoft brand more saleable? We are apprehensive.
