Eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor planned for Samsung Galaxy Note III?
Earlier rumours suggested that the Galaxy Note III would also be getting a bigger 6.3-inch display, and that the Galaxy S IV would also use the same processor.
Rumours surrounding the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Note III suggest that it will be powered by an octa-core processor, the same processor that was unveiled by Samsung during CES 2013. The processor, named the Exynos 5 Octa, uses ARM’s big.LITTLE technology and combines a Cortex A7 with a Cortex A15 chip to gain increases in performance and energy efficiency. Samsung and ARM have claimed that the new processor doubles the performance of the Exynos 4 processor, while halving the power consumption.
These new rumours originate from Korea Times, the same news organization that also claimed in December that the Galaxy Note III would come with a 6.3-inch display, an upgrade over the Note II’s 5.5-inch screen, that itself was an increase over the original Note’s 5.3-inch touchscreen. The Galaxy S IV is also expected to wield the same processor and will most likely be launched, this year, before the Note III.
Rumours also suggest that Samsung is looking for ways to minimize the risks of losing business from Apple, as the American company plans to reduce its reliance on the Korean manufacturer. Samsung is reportedly in talks with Chinese companies such as ZTE, Lenovo and Meizu.
There is no word yet on a launch date for the Galaxy Note III.
