Apple is expected to launch its new iPhone series at the Wonderlust event. The event is scheduled to start at 10:30 PM IST. Ahead of the launch, a new report by Bloomberg has surfaced on the internet, claiming that Apple will sell made-in-India iPhones all over the world. Needless to say, this is a big move for Apple as well as for India. Before this, Apple was selling iPhones largely manufactured from China, but the pandemic has forced the Cupertino giant to diversify their supply chain shipments to emerging markets like India.

For the first time in history, Apple would be selling new made-in-India iPhones on launch day. This is not the first time Apple would be selling made-in-India iPhones — they have done it before but with delays. They were not able to match the speed of China. Earlier, it took them 6 months to roll out the Indian units for sale. Last year, it took them some weeks, and this time they would be selling the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus right from the start, according to the report.

iPhone 15 series

This means the iPhone 15 is the first time an India-produced latest-generation Apple device is made available on the first day of sale. The Foxconn factory in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, started the iPhone 15 production in India in early August.

Nevertheless, having Made-in-India iPhone 15 units available at launch is a significant step in Apple’s long-term plans of reducing reliance on China for manufacturing. In total, Apple suppliers in India now produce about 7% of the total number of iPhones manufactured worldwide.

India factories are reportedly making the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. However, it seems Apple is still dependent on China for the assembly of its most premium iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models.
