Apple iOS 6.1.3 beta 2 update seeded; iPhone passcode bug reportedly fixed
Apple will update iOS to version 6.1.3, which will address the lockscreen issue that allows unauthorized access to data on the phone even with a passcode lock.
As identified by users and confirmed by Apple, iPhone devices running on iOS 6.1 have a bug which lets users access data even if there is a passcode lock. All a user needs to do is access emergency calls, hang up, and hold the sleep button immediately. A fix was expected with iOS 6.1.2, and we were surprised when it rolled out without one. The beta 2 version of iOS 6.1.3 was just sent to developers however, reportedly containing the passcode bypass fix.
The iOS 6.1.3 should roll out to users soon, though no official timeline has been provided. Apple seems to be getting better with more timely updates as update 6.1.2 was released to consumers just a few days ago. The 6.1.2 update fixes the Microsoft Exchange bug, which increased network activity and reduced battery life of the iOS devices. The iOS 6.1.3 update will also add several enhancements to Apple Maps for Japan.
iOS device users can keep checking for software updates under Settings>General>Software Update. If you are a user running iOS 6.1 you can update to iOS 6.1.2. It is a fairly small update – just 12.8MB, and can be downloaded over-the-air on the device. This update is meant for “iPhone 3GS and later, iPad 2 and later, iPod touch 4th generation and later and the iPhone 5”.
