Is Apple working towards a single OS? Maybe!

According to a recent report, Apple may be working on a large 20-inch folding display.

Apple may launch its new folding device around 2026-2027, after ensuring all other products have an OLED screen

The brand has not commented on these rumours

A recent report stated that Apple is working on a large 20-inch display that may be used for a future Macbook pro model, according to MacRumors. The report indicates that Apple may feature a 20.25-inch OLED display that will be manufactured by a South Korean component supplier who is yet unknown. On folding, the 20.25-inch screen would turn into a 15.3-inch screen, which makes this device’s display larger than an Apple iPad Pro, but still smaller than the 16-inch Macbook Pro.

The report says that Apple is working towards a commercial launch around 2026 or 2027, and wants to put it off until all the other devices, such as the Apple iPad and MAC, have been transitioned to OLED displays. At this point, only the top model of the iPhone and Apple Watch have OLED displays. Most other Apple devices are equipped with LCD Panels.

Additionally, the report also says that Apple may be looking to replace the iPad mini with a 10-inch foldable device. There were also speculations that Apple is working towards launching 11-inch and 12.9-inch ‌iPad‌ models that have OLED displays by 2024.

Is Apple working towards a single OS?

Creating a giant folding display could be the first step in working towards a single hardware and operating system. With the 20-inch display being a giant tablet for all intents and purposes, other Apple devices such as the iPad and MAC can all be made levering this new technology. Though Apple did say that a folding phone from them is “unlikely”, there have been plenty of rumours stating that the tech giant is working on a foldable smartphone offering of its own.

Apart from Samsung, which basically started the trend, Chinese companies like Oppo have also entered the folding smartphone market, with the Oppo Find N and Oppo Find N2 being examples. Apple’s interest in offering such a product would make complete sense, especially if consumers begin to move towards folding phones.
