YouTube app arrives on Apple Vision Pro after two years: What you need to know
Google has officially released a native YouTube app for visionOS, replacing previous browser-based workarounds.
The app is a fully revamped version for the Apple Vision Pro that supports VR180 and 3D 360-degree content.
Video playback support varies by hardware, with the M5 chip model supporting up to 8K resolution.
It has been more than two years since Apple released its most advanced hardware to date, the Apple Vision Pro. Ever since the release, the lack of a dedicated YouTube app on the platform has been seen as a major issue by many. The only way to access YouTube on the Vision Pro so far has been through the Safari browser, and it didn’t provide the best experience. But well, Google has finally released the native YouTube app for visionOS, marking the end of a long period where users were forced to rely on workarounds. Let’s take a look at everything added to the YouTube app on the Vision Pro.

Everything new with YouTube on Vision Pro

The new application is not just a simple port of the current iPad version; instead, it is a fully revamped app specifically for the Vision Pro. Users can download the app via the App Store on the Vision Pro. With the app, users now also have the ability to watch standard videos and YouTube Shorts in customisable and theatre-sized virtual windows.
Not only that, but the app also allows users to sync playlists, subscriptions, and watch history across all other devices where they’re signed in. The main highlight here is that the application also adds access to VR180 and 3D 360-degree content, allowing viewers to unlock a whole new genre of content. VR videos have seen a rise on YouTube, where content including travel vlogs, spatial documentaries and high-paced action videos have gained a lot of traction.
There is good news for anyone who purchased the latest version of the Vision Pro, which features the M5 chip. On these newer models, the YouTube app supports video playback up to 8K resolution. While the older models, featuring the M2 chip, will only support 4K playback.
Apple Vision Pro: Availability in India
The availability of the Apple Vision Pro in the Indian market has been a big question for many since its launch. While Apple sells most of their products officially through the official Apple Store for India, the Vision Pro, unfortunately, is not one of them. Neither the M2 nor the M5 variants of the Vision Pro have been made available in the Indian market yet. As of now, we don’t have any launch timelines for the Apple Vision Pro India launch so far.
