The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to launch a dedicated Aadhaar mobile application by December 2025, aiming to make Aadhaar updates smoother and more accessible. With the new app, users may no longer need to spend hours in queues at Aadhaar Seva Kendras for routine corrections.

The upcoming e-Aadhaar app is designed to be a simple, secure, and user-friendly platform that enables Aadhaar holders to update their personal details – such as name, address, and date of birth – directly from their smartphones. To keep the process safe, the app will leverage AI tools, Face ID login, and advanced verification systems.

The UIDAI has confirmed that while most demographic updates can be completed digitally, biometric updates, such as fingerprints and iris scans, will still require a physical visit. Similarly, changing your Aadhaar-linked mobile number will continue to involve in-person verification, given its importance in banking and government services.

New Aadhaar app features

The upcoming e-Aadhaar app will feature a range of modern enhancements designed to simplify and enhance the security of Aadhaar management. Users will be able to log in quickly using Face ID authentication, update demographic details such as name, address, and date of birth, and even download their Aadhaar instantly. The app will also provide access to update history for better transparency and allow users to order PVC Aadhaar cards for doorstep delivery. Additionally, a built-in QR code scanner will enable instant Aadhaar verification, reducing the chances of fraud and eliminating the need for physical document copies.

These tools aim to reduce paperwork, eliminate delays, and minimise the risk of counterfeit Aadhaar cards. Users will also be able to share Aadhaar details securely online, reducing the need for physical photocopies during routine verifications.

A beta version of the app was launched in April 2025 by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Since then, UIDAI has been fine-tuning its features based on user feedback. The full public rollout is expected by December 2025, though officials note that the timeline is tentative.

For millions of Aadhaar holders, the new app could be a game-changer. Currently, users must visit Aadhaar centres and stand in long queues, even for minor corrections, which often necessitate a trip to a service centre, resulting in further long queues and delays. By moving much of the process online, UIDAI is looking to bring speed, transparency, and convenience to one of India’s most widely used identification systems.
