Sam Altman pokes fun at Anthropic’s Claude commercial, says he thought it was satire

Altman wrote, "I thought this was satire, kept looking for the handle to be spelled c1audeai or something."
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has taken a fresh dig at rival AI company Anthropic. Last week, Anthropic posted a video in which people spoke about their hopes and concerns around AI. The video focused on difficult questions surrounding AI and its impact. Anthropic shared the clip with the caption, “There’s hope in hard questions.” Altman has now reacted to the video with a mocking post. He wrote, “I thought this was satire, kept looking for the handle to be spelled c1audeai or something.”
SurveyHe also criticised Anthropic’s approach to its AI services. Altman wrote, “hard questions are great but only if we deem you worthy enough to not silently downgrade you, or even get access at all.”

This is not the first public clash between OpenAI and Anthropic on X. Earlier this year, OpenAI announced plans to bring ads to ChatGPT. Soon after, Anthropic targeted the decision in a commercial. The company released four ads, with one of them opening with the word ‘BETRAYAL’ in large letters.
The ad showed a man asking a chatbot for advice on how to talk to his mother. At first, the chatbot gave normal suggestions. It advised him to listen and suggested going on a nature walk. However, the conversation suddenly changed. The chatbot started promoting a fake cougar dating website called Golden Encounters. The chatbot in the commercial was clearly meant to resemble ChatGPT. Anthropic ended the ad by saying that ads may be coming to AI chatbots, but they would not be added to Claude.

Altman later responded with a post on X. He criticised Anthropic and called the AI company “dishonest.” According to Altman, the commercial gave people the wrong idea about how ads would work in ChatGPT. Altman had also claimed that Anthropic mainly serves wealthy users. He wrote, “Anthropic serves an expensive product to rich people.” He also accused Anthropic of being too controlling and even called it “authoritarian.”
