IMC 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress 2026 on Thursday. The event is currently being held at the India International Convention and Expo Centre, at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. While addressing the crowd at the event, the PM called for a global framework to tackle cyber fraud, deepfakes and other technology-driven threats. He further urged the technology companies, telecom operators and financial institutions to work together on stronger digital security. The PM also pointed out that cyber fraud and cybercrime do not remain within national borders and asked that, to make the platform a success, international cooperation will be important. PM Modi calls for global action against cyber fraud

While speaking at the IMC 2026, PM Modi proposed greater cooperation between governments, technology companies, telecom operators and financial institutions to prevent cyber fraud before it reaches citizens. The prime focus of the framework would be to keep AI-generated content in check, which includes deepfakes that are becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish from genuine videos, images and audio.

Not only that, but he added that India has gained considerable experience in dealing with such challenges and is prepared to share its approach with other countries. He further emphasised that citizens need to feel confident when receiving calls and messages, making digital payments, or sharing personal information online. According to him, technology can achieve scale only when it earns people’s trust.

Telecom companies have a bigger role to play

The Prime Minister also pointed out the role of telecom operators in keeping India’s digital ecosystem secure, as he said mobile phones are no longer limited to communication. Rather, they have become an important part of banking, education, healthcare and government services.

According to him, India’s telecom growth has also helped the citizens living in villages and smaller cities to avail internet services, helping them to get the benefits of the government schemes which were unable to reach the actual beneficiaries prior to the expansion. He further stressed that this expansion must go together with stronger security and public trust.
