Google AI-powered 'Speaking practice' feature will enhance your English skills: Here's how

Users in Argentina, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Venezuela who are part of Search Labs, a program designed for users to test early-stage Google Search features, can access this feature.

The experiment aims to enhance users’ English skills by engaging them in interactive language learning exercises powered by AI. This will help users integrate new words into everyday situations effectively.

Building upon a feature launched by Google last October aimed at enhancing English learners’ skills, Speaking Practice introduces a new dimension. While the previous feature enabled learners to practise speaking sentences in context and receive feedback on grammar and clarity, Speaking Practice takes it further by incorporating back-and-forth conversational practice.

An X user was the first to notice the feature and shared screenshots showing the functionality in action.

In the Speaking Practice feature, users are prompted with conversational questions that require them to respond using specific words. For instance, according to the screenshots, the AI might express a desire to get into shape and then ask, “What should I do?” The user is then required to say a response incorporating the words “exercise,” “heart,” and “tired.”

The feature aims to assist English language learners in engaging in English conversations while gaining a better understanding of how to use different words correctly.
