The partnership marks a nostalgic reunion between the two brands, which dates back to the 1980s when ISSEY MIYAKE created the iconic black turtlenecks worn by Steve Jobs. Those turtlenecks became synonymous with Jobs, and now, decades later, ISSEY MIYAKE has once again created an accessory that features Apple’s signature blend of design and functionality.

Steve Jobs’ connection to ISSEY MIYAKE

In the 1980s, Steve Jobs visited Sony and admired uniforms designed by founder Issey Miyake, according to Forbes. Jobs wanted similar clothing for Apple employees, but that failed.

However, Jobs and Miyake became friends. “So I asked Issey to make me some of his black turtlenecks that I liked, and he made me like a hundred of them,” Jobs told his biographer, saying it was enough to last the rest of his life.

Those turtlenecks, paired with jeans, became Jobs’s signature look and helped make him one of the world’s most recognisable CEOs.
