Apple Pay launches in India: How to use it, supported cards and other details

The service can be used at stores, in apps and on websites without entering card details, PINs or OTPs during checkout. At launch, Apple Pay supports Visa and Mastercard credit cards issued by Axis Bank. Users can add their cards to Apple Wallet and make contactless payments at supported stores across the country. Apple says support for Mac is also coming soon.

How to set up Apple Pay
Users can add their eligible Axis Bank credit card to Apple Pay in a few steps:
- Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
- Tap the + button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to add the card.
Also, users can add the card through the latest version of the Axis Bank app. Once the card is added, Apple Pay can be used immediately.
How to pay using Apple Pay
To make a payment at a store, double-click the side button or Home button, authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode if asked. Then hold the top of the iPhone or Apple Watch display near the contactless payment machine.

Where can Apple Pay be used
Apple Pay will be accepted by millions of merchants across India, including Apple Store locations, Blinkit, Croma, Zomato, Ixigo, Tata 1mg, Reliance brands, Chaayos and more.
Apple has worked with payment service providers such as Cashfree, JusPay, Mswipe, Paytm, PayU, Pine Labs, Razorpay and Worldline to expand Apple Pay support across merchant networks.
Apple Pay security and privacy
Apple says card numbers are not stored on the device or its servers. They are also not shared with merchants. Instead, Apple Pay uses a unique Device Account Number, which is encrypted and stored securely on the device.
Apple also says it does not keep transaction information that can be linked to the user. If an iPhone is lost or stolen, users can use the Find My app to lock the device or suspend payments.
