Google is reportedly gearing for the next generation software update, the Android 17. The update is internally codenamed Cinnamon Bun and is expected to arrive in the mid of this year. The new update may bring new features and a visual refresh for the eligible devices. While Google has not confirmed anything specific at the moment, the development cycle appears to be moving faster than before. The latest report suggests that the Android 17 development cycle is moving faster than expected. The company is expected to move the beta release to Q2 rather than its conventional Q3/Q4 window. If the reports are believed to be true, the Android 17 beta 1 could arrive as early as late February or early March 2026. The public beta phase is expected to run through spring and the final version may rollout in June 2026, initially for Pixel.
Android 17: What to expect
The upcoming update is expected to introduce enhanced design language. Early reports suggest improved animations, wallpaper-adaptive icons, and a more dynamic notification shade. Additionally, the update will concentrate on Desktop Mode. According to reports, Google is focusing on multi-window support, developing a taskbar-style interface, and improving keyboard and mouse integration.
Other anticipated features include the return of lock screen widgets for faster access to information, enhanced privacy and security tools such as intrusion logging and tighter background app controls, and improved keyboard customisation options for greater accessibility.

Android 17 eligible devices
While Google has yet to publish an official list, several devices are expected to meet current software support. For Google, this most likely includes the Pixel 6 series and subsequent models, as well as the upcoming Pixel 10 lineup. Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S23, S24, and S25 series, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 4, 5, 6, and newer foldables, are expected to receive the One UI 9 update.
The OnePlus 11, 12, 13, and OnePlus Open are all potential contenders. Xiaomi’s recent flagship 14 and 15 series, select Redmi Note premium models, and Motorola’s Edge flagships and Razr foldables are all expected to be available, subject to regional rollout plans.
