Ubisoft shares first look at Assassin’s Creed Resynced combat: All details and changes

We’ve all been in situations where the only way out of a fight is a good spam attack. But that will not work with the upcoming remake of what is perhaps one of the most popular games of all time. Yes, I am talking about Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.  Ubisoft is remaking the game from the ground up and this is going to be much more than a visual refresh. You can expect major changes coming to combat, stealth, and parkour.

In a new blog post, the studio confirmed that the game’s systems have been rebuilt using newer Anvil engine technology, including features introduced in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Here is what all you can expect.

What will change with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag combat?

The biggest focus here appears to be combat. Ubisoft has said that fights in Resynced will be more tactical and less exploitable than the original 2013 release. The game’s creative director Paul Fu, who authored the blog post, said enemies can now adapt to repetitive player behaviour and punish players for relying on the same tricks repeatedly.

Every move carries its own strengths and weaknesses. The studio also specifically highlighted how enemies will respond differently depending on the player’s habits during battle.

For example, players who wait too long for parries will trigger unblockable attacks from enemies. Similarly, overusing kicks will cause enemies to start dodging them. So, what will be the most popular combat strategy? The answer is to constantly mix attacks, defensive moves, rope darts, pistols, sweeps, and heavy strikes to stay unpredictable.

The remake also introduces several new mechanics. Edward Kenway will now get a dodge attack system, including a “Perfect Dodge” move that deals extra damage with precise timing. Heavy attacks have also been added and function differently depending on the equipped weapon. Rapiers deal piercing damage, cutlasses hit multiple enemies at once, while pistol-swords can fire shots during attacks.

Ubisoft has also redesigned enemy archetypes. Advanced enemies like Brutes, Captains, and a brand-new Demolitionist class will be harder to counter using standard chain takedowns. Players may need to use pistols to break enemy defenses before continuing combos.

Parkour and stealth receive major upgrades 

Apart from combat, Ubisoft also confirmed that parkour and stealth systems have been rebuilt from scratch. Movement has apparently been made faster and more responsive, while advanced parkour options such as side ejects, back ejects, and manual jumps are returning with modern controls.

There are also some new traversal additions that include ziplines across cities and smoother landing animations to maintain movement flow. Edward can also crouch anytime now, allowing better stealth gameplay across rooftops, bushes, and dark environments.
