Sony’s State of Play confirms release date of 007 First Light, details here
Sony just confirmed the release date of its upcoming James Bond game titled 007 First Light. The date was confirmed during the recent State of Play which revolved entirely around the game and it gave us a good idea of what we can expect. Bond has returned to the gaming scene after more than a decade as the last major Bond game to be launched was 007 Legends in 2012.
SurveyAt the end of the 30-minute long State of Play showcase, the release date of the game was confirmed. 007 First Light will be available on March 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. On PlayStation 5 Pro, the game will also support enhanced visuals and smoother performance thanks to Sony’s PSSR upscaling technology.
The announcement came alongside an extended gameplay reveal that offered the first proper look at Bond’s origin story in action. Developed by IO Interactive, the studio behind the acclaimed Hitman series, the game will focus on stealth-driven espionage, cinematic action sequences, and the early days of James Bond as he works to earn his double-0 status.
During the showcase, fans were treated to nearly 30 minutes of gameplay. The footage highlighted the game’s mix of stealth mechanics, high-speed chases, and cinematic combat. Missions ranged from quiet infiltrations in high-security facilities to intense shootouts and daring escapes. There was even a glimpse of the iconic Bond car in action, complete with gadgets for tactical takedowns.
The influence of IO Interactive’s Hitman series was immediately clear. Much like Agent 47, Bond will have multiple ways to approach a mission, relying on disguises, gadgets, and improvisation. But where Hitman often leaned into sandbox experimentation, First Light seems to add a more cinematic, story-driven edge that matches the Bond brand.
As 007 First Light heads toward its March 2026 release, IO Interactive is expected to share more about the game’s narrative structure, its approach to gadgets, and the potential inclusion of multiplayer or live-service elements. Given the studio’s track record with Hitman’s evolving live content, fans are curious whether Bond’s world might receive similar ongoing updates.
What’s clear for now is that Bond is back, and his next mission looks like one worth waiting for. Sleek, stylish, and grounded in espionage, 007 First Light has the chance to become more than just another movie tie-in—it could redefine how the world’s most famous secret agent is experienced in gaming.
