HIGHLIGHTS

The Vikendi snow map is slated to be made available for PC live servers on December 19.

Developers of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Bluehole, was rumoured to be working on a new snow-filled map for the game. Called Vikendi, the new map is now officially announced by the company, but contrary to reports which suggested that the new map will be launched alongside the debut of the Battle Royale title for the PS4, it is currently available only on PC test servers, and will be rolled out for Xbox One and PS4 in January. The new winter map for PUBG was revealed at The Game Awards 2018 and soon after, the official PUBG Twitter account tweeted about the same. The tweet reads, “Introducing Vikendi: A brand new map wreathed in snow. Winter has come to #PUBG and you'll need to adapt if you want to survive. Play Vikendi starting tonight on PC Test Server! Launches on PC Live Server Dec. 19 and in January for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.”

The new snow map was extensively leaked when it was recreated with the help of datamined files. The same map was earlier expected to be called Dihor Otok and its leaked video gave a look at the cosmodrome (spaceport) on the map, along with a docked rocket and towers. It’s yet to be seen how much of the leaked video turns out to be true. In related PUBG news, the game released on PS4 today, December 7. It was supposed to be made available in three editions, the Survivor’s edition which is priced at Rs 2,750, the Looter’s edition at Rs 2,750, and the Champion’s edition, which costs Rs 3,999. However, we checked to find only the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds bundle available on the PlayStation Store at Rs 2,750. The game does come with access to the PUBG Public Test Server.

File size for the PUBG bundle listed on the PlayStation Store is 40.63GB and additionally, there’s a PUBG Starter Pack up for sale as well. The Started Pack is priced at Rs 832 and buyers will receive 1,100 G-Coin, an additional 500 bonus G-Coin, and the Brown Hat Ranger Skin Set. The G-Coins can be used to purchase PUBG in-game cosmetics and more. Do note that the game itself is not included with this Starter Pack.

Speaking of PUBG’s availability on the new console, the game is available on Xbox, PC, and mobile devices but there’s still no cross-play support. PUBG said on its forum page, “It’s not a feature that will be available at launch, but we’re interested in working with our partners to explore cross-play functionality.” However, for PS4 Pro owners, the title comes with performance improvements and enhanced graphics. There’s no confirmation of native 4K resolution support bit the game will be playable at 30 fps and will support HDR on both, the PS4 and the PS4 Pro.
