When the original Crysis was launched for the PC, the game was considered a benchmark to test the capabilities of your gaming rig. If your PC could run Crysis at high settings smoothly, you had an awesome rig.
Crysis 2 was launched in 2011 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC and 6 months after that, the original was re-launched for the Xbox 360 as a downloadable game.
It seems that EA was too excited to show off details of the next game in the franchise. The news was “accidently broken” on Origin service where the box art and cursory details of the game were briefly revealed.
EA has not denied the existence of the game and has said, “The best kept secret in shooters just can’t be contained. Stay tuned for more information on April 16.”
Since the news broke on Origin (which is an EA property), it is likely that this was a deliberate leak rather that an accident to get gamers excited about what EA has to announce on April 16th.
Coming Monday we can expect a swarm of details to be revealed about Crysis 3 and maybe even see a playable demo at E3 2012.
Crysis 2 was one of the best first person shooters in 2011 but was received with mixed reviews by PC gamers. For starters, the game initially didn’t demand that you have a top of the line PC to take full advantage of what the game had to offer. Secondly, the fact that the game was available on home console and looked really good on the Xbox 360 pissed them off even more.
