YouTube pushes Edtech in India; ‘Courses’ learning programme announced

Google at the Google For India 2022 event announced that the company’s video platform, YouTube in an effort to support a holistic learning experience and monetization option for various content creators, is starting a new online learning program.

In its blog, Google said that the learning program is called ‘Courses’ and it involves a group of YouTubers and content creators who will offer online courses to their viewers. These courses can either be free or paid depending on the type of the course or the creator. Some creators who will be involved in this program are LearnoHub, Speak English With Aishwarya, and Telusko. These creators will be developing courses across academic and vocational subjects in various Indian languages. The program is currently in its beta phase.

Why YouTube Learning?

During the event, Google pointed out the fact that many YouTube channels that earn more than Rs. 1 lakh as their annual revenue have grown more than 60 per cent over the last year. Google also shared the findings of the Oxford Economics study. The study estimated that in 2021, more than Rs. 10,000 crores were contributed to India’s GDP by YouTube’s creative ecosystem.

Google stated that in India, health condition videos gained over 30 billion views on YouTube in 2021. Google also stated that this supported many hospitals like Apollo and Max Healthcare to create content related to health, and was available across more than 60 health-related topics.

They also said that the company is beta testing the ability that allows a single video has more than one audio track. This will let the users to access content from various content creators in the language of their preference. Google further said that it will continuously invest in various new features that will help content creators develop more content and give them more ways to interact with their audience and make more money.
