WhatsApp has been introducing a variety of new features to enhance the user experience. Following that suit, the instant messaging platform has now added a fresh set of updates to improve how users communicate in group chats. The Meta-owned messaging platform has added new tools for personalisation, expression and coordination. The new features are already rolling out for users with the new WhatsApp update.

Among the key additions, the company added member tags. It basically allows the users to assign themselves a role or label within a specific group. These tags can be customised for each group, making it easier for the participant to identify context, such as family roles, team positions or responsibilities within a shared space.

WhatsApp is also expanding creative options with text-based stickers. The users will now be able to turn any typed word or phrase into a sticker directly through Sticker Search and save these custom creations to their sticker packs without sending them first.

Another update focuses on coordination within groups. Event reminders now support custom advance alerts, enabling organisers to notify participants earlier than the event start time. This feature is designed to help users better manage schedules, whether for in-person gatherings or virtual meetings.

The new features join WhatsApp’s existing set of group-focused features, which include large file sharing, HD media, screen sharing and voice chats.

“It’s a new year and a great time for some upgrades to your group chats. Group chats on WhatsApp make it easier to stay connected with the people in your life, no matter what device they own – whether it’s sharing New Year’s resolutions, preparing for that special celebration you have coming up, or planning to win your football league,” the company stated in its press release.
