With the introduction of new features like groups and access on companion devices, and soon the release of animated emoji, WhatsApp is delighting users. However, its ‘edit message’ feature may well be the most useful feature WhatsApp has released in recent memory.

In its quest in competing with similar platforms like Telegram and Signal, WhatsApp has been trying to leave no stone unturned in trying to enhance the overall value of its messaging platform for all types of users – even the ones that are prone to making typos while typing hurriedly, and wished they had an edit message button to correct themselves for posterity. In the latest update, WhatsApp will now be supporting editing sent messages. Let’s see how that works.

How WhatsApp ‘edit message’ feature works

Note that in order to edit your message, the time span given is the first 15 minutes of the message being sent. You long press on the sent message and select “edit” in order to use the feature. You can edit your WhatsApp message in less than 5 steps.

Previously, the application in the beta version allowed the users to change the message within 5 minutes. However, now it has been extended ahead of the roll out. While the edit history will not be visible, the user at the receiving end will see an “edited” status for the sent message barring any unethical use of the messaging feature.

For the most used social media platform, Instagram, editing the message is just long press, edit and save.

WhatsApp, however, uses the editing method from Apple iOS 16. Where the messages are to be edited in a given period. However, there are limitations as to how many edits you can make in one message.
