What is a passkey

Why passkeys are safer
Passkeys are an upgrade from regular passwords and even one-time SMS codes. According to Meta, passkeys are “resistant to guessing or theft by malicious websites or scam links, making them effective against phishing and password spraying attacks.” Meta says your fingerprint, face scan or PIN used to create the passkey remains on your device and is never seen or stored by the company.
Once set up, your passkey won’t just be used for logging in. Meta says it can also help autofill your payment information when using Meta Pay. In the future, it will also be used to access Messenger and protect your encrypted message backups.
How to set up your Facebook passkey
Setting up a passkey is quick and easy. You can go to the Accounts Center in the Settings menu on Facebook to get started. You might also be prompted to create one when logging in to your account. It’s important to note you can still log in using your regular password or other methods.
