Social media platforms like Instagram are designed to keep you hooked, especially with the never-ending stream of addictive short videos like reels. While they provide entertainment, they can also drain your time and negatively affect your attention span, ultimately impacting your daily routine.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by constant scrolling and noticing that your screen time is getting out of hand, it might be time for a break. A great first step toward a digital detox is deactivating your Instagram account. Not sure how to get started? No worries, we’ve got you covered with this step-by-step guide.

Steps to deactivate Instagram account from phone

Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your phone.
Step 2: Go to your Profile, then tap on the top right Profile Menu.
Step 3: Here tap on “Accounts Center” and go to “Personal details” in Account settings.
Step 4: Now go to the third option “Account ownership and control”  and then tap on “Deactivation or deletion”.
Step 5: Choose the account you want to deactivate and select “Deactivate account”.
Step 6: Enter your password and select “Continue” to confirm.
Step 7: Choose a reason for deactivating your account and tap “Continue”.

And it is done, you can enjoy your social media detox.

To deactivate your Instagram account from PC, go to instagram.com and log in to the account that you want to deactivate. Now you can follow the same steps as mentioned above for the phone.

Things you should know

  • For reactivating your account, just enter your username and password on Instagram app or website.
  • Keep in mind that you can only deactivate your account once a week. And if you are reactivating your Instagram account, you have to wait 24 hours to deactivate it again. 
  • But if you don’t want to deactivate your account but want to change who can see it, you have the option to set your posts to private or block people.
