HIGHLIGHTS

Instead of asking you to tweak camera settings manually in order to take quality pictures, the AI the in the new OPPO F11 Pro aims to do it for you.

The camera has become one of the top features that people look at when purchasing a smartphone. Of course, while higher megapixel count does help improve images, that isn’t the end of it. Most DSLR’s tend to offer ‘only’ 24MP sensors, but still take breathtaking pictures. That’s because they offer users fine control over the various camera settings. So anyone who knows what they are doing will be able to take some pretty impressive shots using a DSLR. However, most smartphone users tend to take pictures using the default camera mode. As such, they don’t necessarily take the best possible photo for their ambient lighting conditions. While most phones do offer a ‘Pro’ mode, then can be a little intimidating for the average user.

The answer to this problem was to make the default camera smart enough to change the camera settings on its own. Global Manufacturer like OPPO did so by utilising the power of AI to make changes on the move. With its newest smartphone, the OPPO F11 Pro, the company aims to make things even better. The phone offers some pretty interesting camera specifications that have been further boosted via AI.

Specs maketh the phone

Before we get to the nitty gritties of the AI tech used on the OPPO F11 Pro, let’s take a quick look at the hardware. At the back of the OPPO F11 Pro is a dual-rear camera featuring a 48MP + 5MP setup. Further the phone’s camera sports a large F1.79 aperture lens, which should allow for more light to enter the sensor. At the front you get a 16MP camera that rises from the body of the phone. So you don’t have to deal with a notch on the display.

Don’t be afraid of the dark

The OPPO F11 Pro combines its large 48MP rear sensor with its Ultra Night Mode to take brighter photos in the dark. OPPO notes that the 4-in-1 technology used by the phone combines four pixels into one, thereby effectively increasing the size of the photosensitive area. Further, it also sports a 1/2.25 inch sensor, which should help improve the quality of images taken in low light conditions even further.

Crank up the brightness even further

In situations where the ambient light is really low, OPPO’s own AI Ultra-clear Engine comes into play. The company notes that this feature makes use of the AI Engine, Ultra Night Mode and Dazzle Color Mode to take better photos. The Ultra Night Mode utilizes optimization for image stabilization, which is a much-needed feature during long exposure shots. Further, OPPO Notes that the portrait and background scenes of photos are processed separately, which should ensure more natural looking skin tones in photos.

The ol’ razzle-dazzle

Most people tend to prefer vibrant and colourful looking pictures from their smartphone. While this can be done in post production, the problem is that this ends up making skin tones look unnatural. The Dazzle Color Mode in the OPPO F11 Pro aims to fix the problem by using the phone’s AI Engine. The company notes that phone features a skin control module that allows the skin colour of the subject to be mapped separately from the background. This helps to make the images seem more natural, yet vibrant.

More scenes to recognise

While AI Scene Recognition isn’t that new, the OPPO F11 Pro ups the ante by increasing the number of scenes it recognise. This includes night scene, sunrise/sunset, snow scene, food, blue sky, indoor, green grass, landscape, beach, fireworks, dog, spotlight, portrait, multi-person portrait, and more. This means that the phone is equipped to handle a wider range of scenarios that you might find yourself in.

Moving towards Experience

Moving towards improving user experience, the OPPO F11 Pro debuts the VOOC 3.0 technology that shortens the charging time by 20 minutes and further improves the charging speed. The F11 series is equipped with a 4,000mAh battery, a 14% increase in battery capacity compared to the previous generation. This should ensure that users enjoy a long-lasting battery life. In OPPO’s internal tests, a fully-charged offered up to 15.5 hours of battery for everyday use, up to 12 hours for continuous video and 5.5 hrs for heavy game playing. Another feature worth mentioning is the performance acceleration engine called Hyper Boost. This engine uses a three-pronged approach to boost system, gaming and APP performance to give an enhanced experience at system level.

Thanks to its AI capabilities and plethora of other features the OPPO F11 Pro should make it much easier for almost anyone to take impressive photos. So, if you love taking pictures and are looking for a phone that can take pictures in low light conditions, then the OPPO F11 Pro is a device that you should consider.
