OnePlus 9RT

Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G vs OnePlus 9RT 5G: Design and Display

Out of the two phones, the newcomer Reno 7 Pro 5G is probably the most comfortable to hold and carry in your pocket. It is the slimmest Reno ever at just 7.4mm thickness and weighs only 180 grams. In comparison, the OnePlus 9RT measures 8.7mm in width and 198.5 grams in heft.

As for the build material, both phones have Gorilla Glass 5 on the front, metal frame, and glass back. Here on the back also, OnePlus has Gorilla Glass 5 while Oppo chooses Panda Glass. Both of them should feel decent on hand with preferences pertaining to the texture, squared/curvy edges, and aforesaid dimensions and weight factor.

Coming to the display properties and picture quality, the OnePlus 9RT 5G has a lead in terms of its faster 120Hz refresh rate, 1300Hz of touch sampling rate, and 1,300nits of peak brightness. Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G’s screen, meanwhile, has a 90Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling rate, and 800 nits of peak brightness.

Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G vs OnePlus 9RT 5G: Camera Configuration

Both of them sport the same 50MP Sony IMX 766 sensor by the back. However, the accompanying sensors are different. Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G’s auxiliary sensors are 8MP 119° ultrawide and 2MP macro shooter. OnePlus again has a bigger 16MP 123° ultrawide snapper, although, bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better. Anyways, the third one is a 2MP macro module only.

Flip to the front, and the Oppo has got the higher-res 32MP selfie taker (Sony IMX709 with RGBW filter) but only real-world shot comparisons can tell its improvement over the 16MP of the OnePlus 9RT 5G.

That said, one area where Oppo shines (besides the “Orbit Breathing” notification light around the camera panel) is the variety of filters and video shooting modes it presents in the ColorOS camera app like AI Highlight Video and the Bokeh Flare Portrait mode. Now, of late, OnePlus has been sharing some of these ColorOS goodies, which brings us to —

Oppo Reno 7

While Oppo has promised 2 years of platform updates, OnePlus has assured three years of the Android update.

As for the inherent machinery, the OnePlus 9RT 5G has Snapdragon 888 (with 8/12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128/256GB of UFS 3.1 storage) whereas the Oppo Reno 7 Pro 5G has a Dimensity 1200 Max chipset (with 12GB LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage).

  • Snapdragon 888 is based on a 5nm process with 1x Cortex-X1 prime core with 2.84GHz clock speeds, 3x Cortex-A78 performance cores, and 4x Cortex-A55 efficiency cores.
  • Dimensity 1200 Max is a 6nm processor with 1x Cortex-A78 core clocked at 3GHz, 3x Cortex-A78 cores, and 4x Cortex-A55 power-saving cores. The Max suffix denotes the company has tweaked the processor a bit to benefit in key areas of performance.

Beyond core structure and clock speeds, sustained performance, heating, and power efficiency would also matter.
