The Huawei P9 is the latest flagship phone by the company and boasts of a 12MP dual-rear camera that’s created in collaboration with Leica
The Huawei P9 is the company’s new flagship smartphone. Priced at Rs. 39,999, the device boasts of a 12MP dual-rear camera that is created in collaboration with legendary German camera manufacturer, Leica. However, there is a lot more that the P9 has to offer than just a very good camera.
The Huawei P9 sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is powered by Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 955 SoC with 3GB of RAM. Besides the 12MP dual-rear cameras, the phone also comes with an 8MP front facing camera. The P9 sports a 3000mAh battery and offers 32GB of onboard storage. Further, the Huawei P9 features a fingerprint sensor and a USB Type-C port.
The highlight of the Huawei P9 are its 12MP dual-rear camera with Leica’s SUMMARIT f/2.2 lenses. The phone itself uses two Sony IMX286 Exmor RS image sensors. One captures the colour data, while the other captures black and white data, along with the contrast data. This also helps to improve the quality of low light images taken by the phone. Further, the device also comes with the company’s IMAGEsmart 5.0 technology, which improves the quality of the captured images even further. The use of two cameras gives the user additional features such as the Bokeh effect, and the option to change the focus after the image has been taken. Selfie enthusiasts can also enjoy taking selfies thanks to the 8MP front facing camera.
The Huawei P9 comes with a compact metal build that feels sturdy yet looks premium. The device is built using aerospace class aluminium which makes the device light, yet strong. The edges of the P9 are slightly chamfered, which helps to ensure that the phone is comfortable to hold for extended periods. The 5.2-inch display ensures that the P9 is small enough to use with one hand, but large enough to enjoy videos. The phone itself is also 6.95mm thick and weighs 144 grams.
The Huawei P9 comes with the company's own octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 955 SoC with 3GB of RAM. The Kirin 955 is based on the 16nm FinFET process and consists of four Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2.5GHz and four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The Cortex A72 cores are utilized for heavy tasks like gaming, while the Cortex A53 cores are utilised for everyday tasks. The phone also runs EMUI 4.1, which is based on Android Marshmallow v6.0.
The Huawei P9 sports a 3000mAh battery, which is pretty impressive for such a slim device. The device comes with three presets called Performance, Smart and Ultra Power Saving. Further, the phone also comes with a feature called ROG power saving that drops the display resolution of the device to 720p. This helps to increase the battery life of the device even further. The phone also comes with a USB Type-C port, which helps to speed up the charging process.
