Here’s how OPPO is doing its bit to pioneer the advancement of 5G in India

Innovations in the field of 5G have been steadily unlocking a new era of assistive and intuitive technological breakthroughs. It is no surprise then that one of the leading technology companies in the world, OPPO, has been on a mission to launch 5G-capable devices to enhance user experience. In 2021, OPPO has already launched four 5G-ready devices namely the Reno5 Pro 5G, the F19 Pro+ 5G, the A74 5G, and the A53s 5G. All four of the smartphones are priced across different segments to ensure that a wide array of consumers can benefit from the technology and be future-ready.

OPPO’s 5G push in India

OPPO understands that 5G is going to be transformative for a country like India. The development of 5G is after-all, the next logical step to creating a ubiquitous connectivity system across different corners of this vast country. Which is why, the smart device brand has been at the forefront of developing this technology for the country and its plethora of young, future-ready users.

Early last year, OPPO became the first company to successfully conduct a 5G WhatsApp video call at its R&D centre in Hyderabad using its premium OPPO Find X2 device. The R&D centre carried out the WhatsApp video call and displayed the 5G band and speeds achieved. This further strengthened the brand’s vision to be future ready for 5G rollout.

To further reinstate its commitment towards technological innovations, the company also set-up a 5G innovation lab at its Hyderabad R&D centre. The team at the lab is working relentlessly to deepen the development of core product technologies for the 5G ecosystem and help accelerate its rollout in India.

The Indian R&D team of OPPO is the biggest outside China, and works tirelessly to roll out 5G tech as fast as possible. While most 5G tests in India involved non-standalone models, OPPO developed their solutions on stand-alone platforms – which meant testing devices with an authentic 5G set-up.

Besides working on fast deployment of 5G devices in the country, the team is also working on developing some core technologies that will cater to OPPO’s growth across global markets. The 5G team at OPPO India is also working closely with leading industry chain partners like Jio, Airtel, Qualcomm, MediaTek, and others to soon realize its dream of a 5G experience for every smartphone user in India by making this premium technology less complex and more affordable. And the success of Airtel’s live 5G demonstration on OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G is a testimony to the brands continued effort in making its users future ready. As an enabler of technological advancements OPPO plans to catapult India to the position of being the next global innovation hub.

OPPO’s global 5G advancements

OPPO has also been working on technological advancements all across the globe. The company’s R&D team is spread across six research institutes and five research centers spanning from China to almost all major continents. It has successfully collaborated with notable technology giants like Vodafone, Qualcomm, and Ericsson to commercialize Europe’s first low-latency, high-speed 5G SA Network in Germany. In doing so, OPPO not only became the only mobile device provider to have undertaken this task, but also marked a milestone in the development of 5G in the region. Standalone 5G is a more complete form of 5G network and is the architecture to which all 5G networks will eventually conform and thus unleash the full power of 5G

Combine this with its plethora of 5G patents owned by OPPO, and you have a cocktail of heady innovation-driven moves. The company OPPO has filed over 3,700 families of global patent applications, declared over 1,500 families of 5G standard patents to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), and submitted more than 3,000 5G standard-related proposals to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). In addition, according to a report issued by a leading German research institute—IPlytics, OPPO is among the top ten companies regarding the number of declared 5G patent families in 2021.

Bringing cutting-edge technology to all users

Thanks to its innovation-first approach, OPPO has been a pioneer in the advancement of 5G technology. Some of its innovations have already made their way to users in the 5G-ready phones that are already available to its consumers. In fact in a recent study done by CMR OPPO stood out as one of the most preferred brands when it comes to consumer preference for 5G smartphones.

With its growing commitment to invest more in technological research and development, OPPO aims to continue to bring the best of the best innovations to users worldwide. However, the brand’s industry expertise is not just limited to 5G, but also expands into the realm of AI and Flash charging as it sees obvious user benefits derived from an evolved consumer experience.

In 2021, OPPO launched its new project called The Flash Initiative. This brings its proprietary VOOC technology to automobiles, public spaces and more. Further, OPPO says that it will be leveraging its expertise in imaging to apply for over 8,300 image patents worldwide and owns over 2,900 granted patents.

Leading the way to virtuous innovation

Over the years, OPPO has paved the way to become a global 5G Pioneer as it expands its 5G footprint worldwide with an array of technologies and products.  The company notes that this was made possible by adopting a strategy of “virtuous innovation” that delivers a greater benefit to consumers worldwide as they are able to access the benefits of 5G through OPPO products. OPPO has also promised to continue working with industry leaders to increase access to 5G services and create more unique experiences for users worldwide. By backing this enhanced network, the company aims to unleash the full power of 5G and foster a wide range of innovative 5G applications in the near future.
