Best single door refrigerators in India: 5 top picks for efficient cooling

Single-door refrigerators fulfill a fairly simple need in a typical Indian home or kitchen, if you think about it. When you want something compact, efficient, and capable of handling everyday refrigeration needs. That’s where the simplicity ends, I’m afraid, as things get more complicated once you start comparing single-door refrigerator options in the market.

Two models may offer similar capacities, but their compressors, energy ratings, storage layouts, and extra features can be quite different. Since a refrigerator stays on throughout the day, those differences are vital considerations before you make a purchase.

The single-door refrigerator category in India has changed quite a bit in recent years. Typically, 5-star ratings and inverter compressors are now common in better models, while features such as faster ice making, larger vegetable compartments, base drawers, and improved storage layouts have also made their way into single-door refrigerators. Several models may look almost identical on paper, but the differences can make one a better fit for your needs than another.

For this list, I’ve picked five single-door refrigerators from LG, Samsung, Haier, Whirlpool, and IFB. I’ve focused on 5-star models with inverter technology, practical storage, and features that make sense for everyday use.

Whirlpool 230 IMPRO GD PRM 5S

whirlpool refrigerator

At 207 litres, the Whirlpool 230 IMPRO GD PRM 5S offers a lot of storage for a single-door refrigerator, and that’s its biggest advantage. The total capacity is split between a 192.7-litre refrigerator compartment and a 14.3-litre freezer, giving it more room for households that tend to keep larger quantities of food and drinks at home.

Whirlpool pairs that capacity with a 5-star energy rating and inverter technology, so you get the extra storage without giving up on energy efficiency. There’s also a spacious vegetable compartment, dedicated bottle storage, and a base stand drawer for additional space. Of the five refrigerators here, this would be my first pick if you need more storage and don’t particularly care about having smart features.

LG GLD2156ZHEG

lg refrigerator

At 201 litres, the LG GLD2156ZHEG offers considerably more storage than the smaller single-door models while retaining a 5-star energy rating. Its Smart Inverter Compressor is designed to adjust cooling based on usage, while the refrigerator also supports stabiliser-free operation across a wide voltage range. LG rates the model at 111 units of annual energy consumption under test conditions.

The storage layout gets some thoughtful additions too. There’s a base stand drawer underneath, along with a Fit Max Chiller Tray that can accommodate up to four one-litre bottles, toughened-glass shelves and a spacious vegetable compartment. Fast Ice Making, Solar Smart support and the ability to run on a home inverter round out the feature set. For a single-door refrigerator, the combination of 201-litre capacity, 5-star efficiency and practical storage features makes this LG a much stronger all-rounder.

IFB IFBDC-223EYBNED

ifb refrigerator

The IFB IFBDC-223EYBNED offers 197 litres of capacity along with a 5-star energy rating and an Advanced Inverter Compressor. It sits between the smaller 185–190-litre models and Whirlpool’s 207-litre option, giving you some extra storage without making capacity the sole focus of the refrigerator.

IFB has also made good use of the available space. The model gets a large vegetable box, an XL bottle bin, and a base stand drawer, while the claimed cooling retention of up to 30 hours could be useful during longer power cuts. If you want a little more storage than the smaller models but don’t need as much space as the Whirlpool, the IFB is worth considering.

Haier HRD-2115PGCA-N

haier refrigerator

The One Hour Icing Technology is the feature that sets Haier’s HRD-2115PGCA-N apart from the other refrigerators on this list. It is designed to speed up ice production, which gives this otherwise conventional 190-litre refrigerator a useful advantage if you often need ice in a hurry.

The refrigerator also gets a 5-star energy rating, an inverter compressor, and a base stand drawer. The drawer adds some extra storage space outside the main compartment, while the 190-litre capacity gives you more room for groceries without making the refrigerator unnecessarily large. If faster ice-making is something you value, the Haier has a clear reason to consider it over the more straightforward options here.

Samsung RR21H2H25BB/HL

samsung refrigerator

Samsung’s RR21H2H25BB/HL brings a slightly different look to the otherwise familiar single-door refrigerator design, with a horizontal handle and a clean blue finish. More importantly, the 189-litre refrigerator carries a 5-star energy rating and uses Samsung’s Digital Inverter Compressor, giving it the efficiency credentials expected from a current-generation model.

The storage layout is practical too, with toughened-glass shelves, a dedicated vegetable compartment and a base stand drawer for additional storage. Samsung also backs the compressor with a 20-year warranty, while the refrigerator is designed to operate without a separate stabiliser under suitable voltage conditions. At around 189 litres, it sits in a useful middle ground for buyers who want enough room for everyday groceries without going for a larger single-door model.
