Pop the Ice – minimalistic and addictive

Pop the Ice is a unique and minimalist game by the Orangenose Studio. We lowkey got super-addicted to this game, but were extremely disappointed since the game has only 90 levels. Which we finished in no time. But because they were easy, but because we were playing it incessantly. We really hope the developers add a bunch of levels soon.

Pop the Ice Gameplay

So, the gameplay is extremely simple. All you need to do is pop an ice cube into a glass on a raised platform. How do you pop the ice? By banging really hard on the table, of course! While the physics are questionable, keep them aside and this game is a blast. Each level has several platforms, so you have to keep popping the ice from one glass to the next, which is on a higher platform, until you reach the very last one. The tricky part? Well, there are tons of tricky parts that make some levels quite complex. There are glasses with different properties such as the tilted glass which will throw the ice sideways, the thin wine glass which requires you to throw the ice with extreme precision, the glass on wheels which goes super fast and more. There are other challenges as well such as directional wind which could lead your ice cube astray, broken platforms, curtains which veil certain glasses, and much more. Each “bar” or setting has 10 levels, the last of which is the “boss” level. Beat this level and you get a nice little cocktail to add to your collection. Alas, this ‘reward’ is useless… no buffs, no special effects, abilities whatsoever. It’s literally a picture of the cocktail.

Pop the Ice Verdict

Overall it features simple controls, a clean and minimalistic UI, it tests your reaction skills and has decently pretty backgrounds. We would have appreciated it if the game at least provided you with some fun facts about the cocktail when you tapped on it. Nevertheless, this is a game that can get you really hooked quickly and then you’ll end up complaining about there being only 90 levels just like we did…
