Reliance expands the rollout of 5G services to cities in the Delhi-NCR region
HIGHLIGHTS

Reliance Jio is rolling out 5G services in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad.

Users will be invited through the My Jio app to join the 5G network.

Some smartphones might be unable to access 5G networks due to software restrictions.

Although it had a slow start, Reliance Jio is now rolling out 5G services in more cities across India. Per the latest reports, the telecom company is now making its standalone 5G services available in the Delhi-NCR region. Previously, another telecom operator Bharti Airtel had its 5G services active in the area. Now, those using a Jio SIM can also experience relatively faster 5G connectivity on their smartphones.

Jio’s 5G services are now available in Delhi-NCR

Reliance Jio is rolling out 5G services in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and other major locations around the capital. Users who access the internet through a Jio SIM in this area could soon get an invite via the My Jio app to get the 5G Jio Welcome Offer, which includes unlimited data at up to 1Gbps speeds at no additional cost. In addition, existing Jio 4G users in the area need not upgrade their SIM as it already supports the 5G network.

While the process to enable 5G connectivity could be different on different smartphones (based on the operating system), here is a rough outline of what a user might have to do to start using Jio 5G services. First, they should join the Jio Welcome Offer mentioned above. Then they should open their phone's Settings, open the section that contains settings related to the mobile network, and select Jio SIM.

Then, in the option that reads 'Preferred network type,' users should choose 5G. That's all users need to do to enable 5G connectivity on their smartphones. It is important to highlight that for users to take advantage of the 5G network, they must have a 5G-compatible and 5G-enabled smartphone.

Some 5G compatible smartphones might not be able to access the services yet

For instance, the latest iPhone 14 is compatible with 5G, but Apple has not yet enabled software-level connectivity. On the other hand, companies like OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Samsung have enabled 5G connectivity on some of their models through OTA updates.

Nevertheless, iPhone users should not worry as iOS 16.2 beta already has 5G support and is expected to be available for all users in December 2022. With the rollout in the Delhi-NCR region, Jio's 5G services are now available across twelve cities in the country, including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Varanasi, Nathdwara, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
