Both Airtel and Jio have dropped their Rs 249 packs that offered daily 1GB data, calls, and SMS.
Airtel’s cheapest daily data plan now starts at Rs 299 with 1GB/day for 28 days, plus perks like Xstream and HelloTunes.
Airtel’s 5G plans begin at Rs 398, while Jio starts at Rs 349 with Disney+ Hotstar, making Jio’s pricing more aggressive.
A day after Reliance Jio discontinued its popular Rs 249 base plan, Airtel too has quietly dropped its Rs 249 pack that offered similar benefits. Until today, Airtel’s Rs 249 plan offered users unlimited calls, 1GB data per day, 100 SMS per day, and 24 days of validity. Additionally, it also included extra perks such as an Airtel Xstream subscription, 30 days of HelloTunes, and live spam alerts. Now, the plan has been removed from both Airtel’s official website and mobile app.

Jio and Airtel base plans with a daily data limit
With the Rs 249 option gone, the next cheapest plan with a daily data plan from Airtel costs Rs 299. This pack carries forward most of the same benefits – 1GB data per day, unlimited calls, 100 SMS per day, Airtel Xstream, HelloTunes, and spam alerts, but the validity goes up to 28 days.
For those with 5G-ready phones, Airtel has set the base plan at Rs 398. That plan offers unlimited local, STD, and roaming calls, 2GB of data per day, 100 SMS daily, and a Disney+ Hotstar Mobile subscription for 28 days.
On the other hand, Jio is keeping its 5G tariffs slightly lower. Its unlimited 5G plans begin at Rs 349, along with a 90-day Disney+ Hotstar subscription. In terms of pricing, Jio’s offerings look more aggressive, especially for users chasing more data and entertainment.

However, Airtel plans come with premium add-ons. Recently, the telco announced that all its users will get free access to Perplexity Pro, the AI research tool originally priced at around Rs 17,000 a year, along with six months of free Apple Music.
