Xiaomi is reportedly working on an ultra low-cost smartphone. Leaked images and specifications of the rumoured smartphone have emerged on the web. According to reports, the smartphone will cost around $65, which is roughly Rs. 4,049.

As far as specifications go, the ultra low-cost Xiaomi smartphone will come with a 4.7-inch 720 p display. It is expected to run Android 4.4.4 KitKat and powered by a new chip made by Leadcore Technology. Other rumoured specifications include 1GB of RAM and 8MP rear and 2MP front cameras.

Xiaomi has just launched its Redmi 2 smartphone in India. The smartphone is priced below Rs. 6,999, competing against the new gen Moto E and a range of new smartphones priced between Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 10,000. So far, Xiaomi has been extensively focussing on this segment, though it it attempted hitting at the mid-range segment with its Mi 4.

If rumours are true, Xiaomi's $65 phone could be a huge hit in India and other emerging markets. We have a quite a few Android smartphones under Rs. 5,000, but Xiaomi has an advantage with better spec'd and perhaps more powerful devices.

DataWind recently launched two sub-3k phones, though devices don't match the specifications of the rumoured Xiaomi phone. A new brand called InFocus launched a new smartphone called M2, featuring 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.2-inch WXGA display, 8MP rear and front facing cameras. The M2 is priced at Rs. 4,999.
