Xiaomi Redmi 5 to go on sale today at 12PM via Amazon, Mi.com and Mi Home stores

The Redmi 5 will be available in 2GB, 3GB and 4GB RAM variants with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB internal storage options, respectively. Xiaomi has partnered with Jio to offer a Rs 2200 cashback on the smartphone and SBI credit card users will get a five percent discount on purchasing the smartphone from Amazon India and Mi.com.

Xiaomi’s latest smartphone offering in India, the Redmi 5 will be up for sale on Tuesday at 12PM. Users will be able to purchase the Redmi 4 successor (Redmi 4 vs Redmi 5 spec comparison) from Amazon, Mi.com and the Mi Home Stores. During the launch, Manu Jain, Global VP and MD of Xiaomi, also said that the handset will be subsequently available from offline retail partners as well. The Redmi 5 has launched in three variants in the country and the company has priced the 2GB RAM/16 ROM base variant at Rs 7,999, the 3GB RAM/32GB ROM model at Rs 8,999, and the 4GB RAM/64GB storage option is priced at Rs 10,999. 

For launch offers, buyers will get a free case with the smartphone and the company has partnered with Reliance Jio to offer a Rs 2,200 instant cashback to the telcos Prime subscribers, along with 100GB additional data. The cashback will be credited to the users MyJio account in the form of 40 vouchers, each worth Rs 50, which can be used one at a time for subsequent recharges. Customers buying the smartphone using an SBI credit card will also avail an additional 5 percent discount on Amazon India and Mi.com. Additionally, they will be able to purchase their first Kindle eBook with a 90 percent discount (up to Rs 400). 

The Redmi 5 features a taller 18:9 display aspect ratio and comes with a  metal unibody design with reinforced corners. It comes in Black, Gold, Lake Blue, and Rose Gold colour models and features dual pyrolytic sheet technology on the rear panel, same as the Redmi 5A, which helps in heat dissipation.

Coming to the specifications, the smartphone features a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a 1440x720p resolution and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC. It is backed by a 3000mAh battery, which the company says can deliver an entire day of battery life under normal usage, up to 10 hours on video playback and nine hours while gaming. 

In the camera department, the Redmi 5 sports a 12MP rear camera with 1.25-micron pixels sensor, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, HDR. On the front, it’s equipped with a 5MP sensor and both the cameras come with a dedicated LED light. 

The device runs on MIUI 9, which is based on Android 7.1 Nougat and comes with a rear placed fingerprint scanner. Connectivity options include WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, A-GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a micro-USB port for charging.Click here to buy.
