HIGHLIGHTS

The company has teased the launch of a selfie-centric smartphone on Twitter and has also hinted at the announcement of MIUI 10.

Xiaomi has sent out media invitations for an event on June 7, going by which we speculate that the company might debut the Redmi Y2 smartphone in India. A tipster @IshanAgarwal24 has also tweeted out alleged images of the device and says that the recently launched Redmi S2 mobile phone will be rebranded and launched as the Redmi Y2 in the country. He claims that it will come in three colour variants of Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold, and in two variants with 3GB RAM/32GB storage and 4GB RAM/64GB onboard storage. Separately, the company’s Managing Director Manu Jain has also teased the launch of MIUI 10 on Twitter and it is speculated that its Global ROM could be announced at the event on June 7.

The tipster has also given speculated pricing for the rumoured Redmi Y2 smartphone and its 3GB RAM variant could be priced at Rs 9,999, whereas the 4GB variant of the smartphone could be priced at Rs 11,999. There is not much credibility to the leaks here so we advise that one should take it with a pinch of salt. As for the MIUI 10 launch, it is more or less confirmed that the company will announce it soon in India, but when is something we aren’t yet sure about. MIUI 10 was announced at Xiaomi’ s 8th Anniversary, alongside the Mi 8 smartphone and its other variants. The company’s new OS relies heavily on AI for making tweaks and tailoring itself for the user.

Speaking of the Redmi Y2, it is expected to be a camera-centric device, similar to its predecessor. This is also reinforced by the teasers Xiaomi is posting via its social media channels. Additionally, if it is the Redmi S2, which is being rebranded as the Redmi Y2, it could feature a 16MP selfie camera and come with a dual 12MP + 5MP camera sensors on the rear. The smartphone could be powered by the Snapdragon 625 SoC and feature a 5.99-inch HD+ 18:9 display.
