Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S teaser suggest no notch for the front camera, leaked video shows otherwise
HIGHLIGHTS

Xiaomi has posted a teaser on its Weibo account showing the outline of the phone sans the notch, but a video posted by Slashleaks seems to suggest otherwise

Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the Mi Mix 2S may not come with a ‘notch’ design after all. The company posted a teaser for the smartphone on its Weibo account showing an outline of the upcoming smartphone. The outline in the teaser shows no notch, suggesting that the phone may not have a notch for the front camera after all. Till now, almost all leaks and renders of the phone seem to suggest that the phone would feature a notch in the upper right corner.

A video posted on YouTube by Slashleaks seems also reaffirms the notch design. Due to the way the video is shot, it is hard to make out details of the phone, but the notch can be seen quite clearly. It should be noted that the guys at XDA Developers dug into the code of the MiUICamera application and noted that the phone might feature a bottom-mounted front camera, similar to what was found in the phone’s predecessors.

Whether Xiaomi’s opts for the notch in the Mi Mix 2S will only be known on March 27, when the company is scheduled to unveil the phone in Shanghai. The company has already confirmed that the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. Reports suggest that the phone could come with a dual-rear camera setup with AI-centric features. It may also come with Google’s new augmented reality platform, ARCore. The Mi Mix 2S is also tipped to feature a 5.99-inch OLED Full HD+ display with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Most major Android smartphone manufacturers are tipped to jump on the ‘notch’ bandwagon. OnePlus, Huawei, LG and Vivo are tipped to launch smartphones sporting the look, while Asus’ new ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5Z smartphones come with the new design. Yesterday, Google released the Android P Developer Preview, which brings support for the notch. Besides this, the preview also comes with performance improvements and enhanced security.
