Xiaomi recently launched its Special Edition Red Colour variant of the Mi A1. The smartphone will be available for purchase today via Flipkart and Mi.com at a price of Rs 12,999 against it’s newly discounted price of Rs 13,999. Apart from the new colour, nothing has changed in terms of hardware in the Mi A1. The device was initially launched in black, gold and rose gold variants.

Coming to the specifications, the Xiaomi Mi A1 features a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM coupled with 64GB of expandable storage. It sports a rear placed fingerprint sensor, runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat and is powered by a 3080mAh battery.

In terms of optics, the Mi A1 features a 12MP+12MP dual rear camera setup with one wide-angle and another telephoto lens capable of 2x optical zoom. The main camera supports capturing bokeh shots, PDAF, and 10x digital zoom. The smartphone comes with a 5MP front-facing camera which supports 1080p video recording.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 is the company’s first smartphone based on the Android One Program which runs on stock Android instead of MIUI. The company recently started rolling out the Android Oreo beta update for early adopters. Xiaomi was previously seeking beta testers for testing and clearing bugs from the update before a stable version is rolled out.

The Oreo update weighs 1.1GB in size and improves the performance of the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. However, some issues are expected with a beta build and some users have reported problems with the smartphone's dual-SIM connectivity.
