HIGHLIGHTS

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has apparently informally confirmed that the Mi 7 will sport an in-display fingerprint sensor. The smartphone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 845 platform.

Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun said in a comment on Weibo that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 7 will sport a fingerprint sensor under the display. Xiaomi CEO replied to a comment on a post containing official Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s disassembly photos. The comment was in Chinese and since we don’t speak the language, we are relying on online sources to do the translation for us. Whether the feature makes an appearance on the device is something we will know when it launches. However, this won’t be the first time that we have seen a smartphone with a fingerprint sensor below the display. Information circulating the internet also suggests that the upcoming Nokia 9 will also feature an under-display fingerprint sensor.

Coming back to the Mi 7, other information about the device suggests that the 5.65-inch display will have a notch and the device will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with 8GB RAM. The smartphone is expected to run on Android Oreo out of the box.

There is no information available on whether the Mi7 will come to India. The Mi 6 did not launch in India. We are yet to see a Snapdragon 845 phone launch in India. There are a lot of phones running the flagship SoC scheduled to launch in India soon.
