Sony is expected to launch a few new phones at MWC 2018 this month and if reports are to be believed, the company is making some last minute design changes to its flagship smartphone. The cause of these rumors is Sony’s request to the FCC asking the US regulatory agency to remove all grants for a device with FCC ID PY7-00718V, citing design changes. Now, it is being assumed that the device ID mentioned refers to Sony’s flagship smartphone. According to Express, the phone will drop support from 3.5mm jack, making it the first device by Sony to drop the headphone jack. The FCC listing also reveals that the device will have a 5.7-inch display and its overall dimensions are 152.79 x 72.42mm.
Going by the dimensions, the phone is smaller in size than the Xperia XZ Premium and has a slightly larger display. This just fuels the possibility that this might be Sony’s next flagship smartphone. Sony could launch the Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Pro or XZ Pro at MWC 2018. Previous reports suggest that the phone might feature a 4K resolution on a 5.7-inch display. The phone is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with 6GB RAM. The phone might launch with 128GB storage. The said Sony flagship may offer a dual camera setup at the back with 18MP + 12MP sensors. At the front, the device is expected to feature a 13MP rear camera. It is also tipped to features a 3420mAh battery and IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
Sony has already launched three new phones at CES 2018, the Xperia XA2 Ultra, Xperia XA2 and Xperia L2. While the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra are yet to make an India debut, the Xperia L2 is already here and is priced at Rs 19,990. The phone sports a 5.5-inch HD display and is powered by a MediaTek 6737 with a 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.
Coming back to the developments about its upcoming phones, we are expecting Sony to comply with thinner bezels all-around the display which is fast becoming a mainstay.
