Some Pixel 2 phones rebooting randomly, Google to fix issue in coming weeks

Some Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners are complaining about their devices rebooting randomly. A Pixel 2 user reported the issue on the Pixel User Community of Google’s Product Forum saying that the device randomly rebooted since he started using it. Orrin, a Community Manager at the Forum replied saying that they’ve identified a fix for the problem, which will be “rolling out in the coming weeks.”

The issue seems to be plaguing some Pixel 2 XL users as well. Although It's not known what’s causing the issue, Android Police says that a Pixel 2 XL user named Nader Babbili could be narrowing it down to a problem related to the smartphone’s modem. Babbili believes it is due to low LTE signal area and says that the erratic reboot problem stops after changing the device’s Preferred network type to 3G only.

A Google Issue Tracker named Pixel 2 Random Reboots has also been created where users are providing error logs of their crashing devices. The error logs do point frequently towards an error with the smartphone’s modem which could be causing a “Kernel Panic”. This does fall in line with what Babbili said above, but we can’t be absolutely sure as Google didn’t explain what is causing the random reboots. The promised fix is expected to be included in the December security update.

Both, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL have been facing multiple issues since launch. The Pixel 2 XL exhibited many display related issues, while Pixel 2 users have complained of hearing a faint clicking noise on the phone, which Google said was due to a problem with the smartphone’s NFC chip. Recently, many Pixel 2 users have reported a faint buzzing noise while making calls.The company has taken note of the issue and said that it will be resolved in an upcoming OTA update.
