Samsung Galaxy S IV Mini, other Project J devices to be unveiled on March 15?
Recent rumours hint that Samsung is working on a mini version of its Galaxy S IV flagship, along with a Galaxy watch, both of which are expected to be unveiled alongside the Samsung Galaxy S IV on March 15.
Looks like Samsung is going the Apple way and will announce a slew of devices at its own event rather than at MWC which is just around the corner. Reports on the Internet suggest that Samsung is working on Project J Mini, which was earlier known as Serrano. This device is speculated to be the Samsung Galaxy S IV Mini. Just like the S III Mini, the device is expected to be a dumbed-down version of the flagship smartphone and may compromise on some features such as wireless charging, though it is expected to feature accessories similar to the Galaxy S IV (currently codenamed Project J Altius).
Another device that fall under the Project J flag is the Project J Active device, codenamed Fortius. The device hints strongly towards accessories like an armband, a bike mount and a pouch. Fortius could well be an Android-powered watch or an accessory that works with your Galaxy device. The information on this front isn’t very clear. The information about the Galaxy watch comes at the heel of the news that Apple is supposedly working on a wearable device running iOS, thought to be called the iWatch. You can catch the details of that story here.
According to reports on the Internet, “Project J Active isn’t final decided yet but the Altius and Serrano are.” The leaks also talk about the accessories that might be bundled with the rumoured upcoming devices.
Project J Altius, or Galaxy S IV is expected to have a clear cover, flip cover, protective cover, pouch, extra battery kit, battery 2600mah, wireless charging kit, HDTV adapter and a headset. Project J Mini Serrano, or Galaxy S IV Mini is expected to have a clear cover, flip cover and a protective cover. Lastly, Project J Active Fortius will have an arm band, bike mount and a pouch.
If rumours are to be believed, Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S IV will be unveiled on March 15. The device is expected to go on sale in April. Samsung hasn’t confirmed on any of the details circulating on the Internet.
The S IV is rumoured to hit store shelves in European and Asian markets in April whereas America, Africa and Australia will see the device launch in May and June. We are still anxiously waiting to see what Samsung unveils at MWC at we are certain the South Korean electronic giant won’t miss out on such a big event. Perhaps the Galaxy Note III or the Galaxy Note 8?
But the star attraction that we can’t wait to lay our eyes on is the Galaxy S IV. It is likely to be powered by an eight-core processor that was unveiled by the Korean manufacturer at the CES 2013. The processor, named the Exynos 5 Octa, uses ARM’s big.LITTLE technology and combines Cortex A7 chips with Cortex A15 chips, to gain increases in performance and energy efficiency. Samsung and ARM have claimed that the new processor doubles the performance of the Exynos 4 processor, while halving the power consumption. Among other key specifications, the Galaxy S IV is expected to feature a 5-inch display with full HD (1920×1080 pixel) resolution. There are also talks of 2GB of RAM and a 13MP rear camera on the device. The S IV is expected to run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean straight-out-of-the-box, upgradable to the next version of Android currently speculated to be Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.
