Samsung announces Note event for August 13
HIGHLIGHTS

Samsung is hosting its next Samsung Unpacked event on August 13.

South Korean smartphone maker Samsung is hosting its next Samsung Unpacked event on August 13 2015. The company’s invite to the press says ‘Note’ the date, a clear indication that it will be launching the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 smartphone on August 13. This is also in line with rumours that Samsung has pushed up the date for its Note 5 launch. The company usually launches its flagship Note series at the IFA, Berlin event in September. The is obviously an effort to gain the advantage over Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6S.

According to recent reports, Samsung’s current Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones have not sold as well as the company would have wanted, thanks to strong sales of Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Apple on the other hand is expected to launch the iPhone 6S soon, which means Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 5 may also be headed for the same fate as the S6 and S6 Edge.

Coming back to Samsung’s invite though, the image (shown above) clearly marks a bump on the bottom left side, presumably for the S-Pen, which has become an important feature of the Note series. In addition, the company is also expected to announce an Edge variant to the Note 5 (presumably the Note 5 Edge), which is perhaps why the device in the picture shows curves on both sides.

That said, Samsung has recently also been rumoured to be working on a Galaxy S6 Edge Plus variant, which will be a bigger sized version of the S6 Edge. The company could replace the expected Note 5 Edge with this device instead. Whatever be the case, the Note 5 launch is less than two weeks away, so we’ll know more soon. Expect a lot of leaks in the meantime.

Samsung has been slowly, but steadily, losing its market share to companies like Xiaomi, while Apple remains its strongest and most formidable competitor.
