OnePlus 6T may be launched later this year, OnePlus AMA suggests
HIGHLIGHTS

OnePlus is not deviating from its tried and tested formula of launching two devices a year, anytime soon, confirmed Carl Pei.

OnePlus held an AMA session on its forum page for the OnePlus 6 in which senior executives including, co-founder Carl Pei and product managers of the OnePlus 6, the Bullets Wireless headphones and more took questions from fans and potential buyers. Amidst the general queries about the new glass design, water resistance and the likes, there was a question about the company’s strategy of two devices a year.

OnePlus’ two flagships a year strategy has drawn ire from a lot of loyalists who complained of their device being phased out just six months after launch. User idkwhoiam322 asked, “is there a chance that we could see OnePlus reverting the new 2 devices a year plan to once a year?”

In reply, Carl Pai said, “We don’t have any plans to change our stategy at this moment”, indicating that a OnePlus 6T will be released sometime later this year.

Other fans also raised their concerns of buying the new OnePlus 6. User Jayh123 asked “Will you be launching a OnePlus 6T later? If yes why buy the OnePlus 6”. That question, unfortunately went unanswered, but it did reveal the mindset of loyalists who are now holding back on purchasing the current offering in the hopes of getting something more (or better) later in the year when more features are introduced to devices.

The strategy, however, seems to have paid off for the company. The OnePlus 5 became the highest grossing phone on Amazon India when it launched, but it was soon replaced by the OnePlus 5T that launched less than six months after, selling 1.3 million units by January 2018.

The company will also look to emulate the same success with the OnePlus 6, which is already off to a raging start. The company announced it raked in Rs 100 crores in the first ten minutes of the OnePlus 6 sale. The phone is also getting rave reviews from all over the world. The OnePlus 6 sports a glass-sandwich design with a 6.28-inch AMOLED panel and a notch on top. The phone also happens to be the first to bring the latest Snapdragon 845 in India, making it the most powerful flagship out there right now.

In our review, we noted that the OnePlus is blazing fast. The phone can handle just about any task flawalessly, without a stutter. Furthermore, the Oxygen OS that powers the phone is optimised for speed.

At the back, you get a 16-megapixel plus 20-megapixel dual camera setup where the secondary 20-megapixel sensor is used only for portrait shots and faster autofocus. On the front is a single 16-megapixel sensor that can take portrait-selfies as well.

Overall, the OnePlus 6 is already a blockbuster hit. That should be reason enough for the company to bring out its successor sooner than usual.
