HIGHLIGHTS

The Your Phone app for iOS along with the Microsoft Launcher on Android will keep you from being distracted by your phone while working on your PC.

Microsoft’s mobile OS may not be there anymore, but the company is finding ways to keep your mobile devices integrated closely with Windows PCs. To that end, Microsoft announced the Your Phone app for iOS at the Build Developer Conference in Seattle. The app can mirror a phone to a PC and will allow Windows 10 to access mails, messages, photos and other notification directly from their PCs.

For Android, the Microsoft Launcher is getting even more powerful. Apart from enabling the ‘Continue on PC’ functionality, it can also mirror the Android phone’s screen on a Windows device. So much so, that you won’t have to physically pick up your phone to access a notification while you’re on your PC. The Microsoft Launcher app will give access to texts, photos and other notifications. In fact, you can drag and drop photos from one device to the other using the feature.

The Your Phone app will be available for Windows Insiders this week and based on user feedback, Microsoft will shape up the final build in Windows 10. The feature will most likely be available in the next major feature update of Windows 10, which is codenamed Redstone 5, and is expected to roll out later this year.

The company will reveal more details about the app during the Windows-centric keynote on May 8. There are already multiple apps like Pushbullet and Airdroid that can mirror a phone’s notifications on Windows devices, but a dedicated app from Microsoft will mean a tighter and more secure integration.
