Micromax Canvas Spark, budget Lollipop smartphone coming soon

After successful run with the Unite 2 and Yu Yureka, Micromax is set to launch a new budget Android smartphone called the Canvas Spark.

Competition in the entry-level/budget smartphone segment has intensified not only on the price front but also on the specs. Thanks to brands such as Motorola, Asus, Lenovo and Xiaomi, we have a range of high spec'd entry-level/budget smartphones. The trend has already alarmed Micromax, which has been so far the dominant player in that entry-level/budget segment. Even though Micromax has attempted to thwart the competition with its Cyanogen-based Yureka and Android-based Unite 2, the company is readying a new smartphone called the Canvas Spark.

According to reports, the Micromax Canvas Spark will compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 2 and Moto E (2nd Gen). The company already has begun advertising (teasers) on the social networking websites. Going by hints Micromax has given so far, the phone will be available exclusively via e-commerce website Snapdeal.

Times of India citing a source says the phone will be priced around Rs. 6,000 and will be available via flash sale. The official release is expected around last week of April. As far specifications go, the smartphone is expected to come with 4.3-5-inch display. AndroidOS reports the smartphone is powered by a MediaTek quad-core processor, which also running in Android One phones and other Android phones. The smartphone is confirmed to run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. Connectivity options include dual-SIM. It will also have a microSD slot for storage expansion.
