Huawei is rolling out the new EMUI 8.1.0.123 update for the P20 Pro in China. The new update, first reported by a senior XDA Developer member, has a build number of B131 and it brings some new improvements to the device’s camera and to the overall software system. The most notable camera improvement is the option that allows automatic slow-motion video shooting. When switched to slow-mo mode, a small target box appears on the screen and the device commences recording video at 960 fps as soon as it detects any movement inside the box. The feature is similar to the one we have seen on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus but we will have to wait to see if it’s also as accurate at capturing videos as Galaxy S9 smartphones.

Alongside the new camera tweaks, the software patch updates the device’s security patch to June 2018. It also fixes a problem with the hotspot not being able to access the internet and optimises the power consumption as well. Even though it's not mentioned on the official blog, the update is also said to relocate the zoom button lower on the display and change its appearance from a circle to a square.

The forum members also say that there have been some improvements to the portrait mode as well, but it’s better to wait for the update to hit the devices and check it out yourself. Do note that the forum members have manually flashed the new patch and have provided their feedback after initial use.

Huawei launched its current flagship, the P20 Pro back in March this year. The highlight of the device is its triple main camera setup. It features an 8MP telephoto lens, a 40MP main RGB sensor and a 20MP Monochrome sensor with a f/2.4, f/1.8 and a f/1.6 aperture lens respectively. It is equipped with a 1/1.78-inch sensor and the three lenses are made by Leica. You can read our review of the smartphone here and read the camera modes breakdown here.
