Huawei is all set to launch its latest flagship smartphones today in India, the top-of-the-line Huawei P20 Pro, which comes with triple rear cameras and its lesser variant with a dual cameras setup, the P20 Lite. The company may not introduce the standard Huawei P20 in the country as its “Notify me” option is missing from the dedicated webpage set-up by Amazon India for the smartphones. The company has been teasing the two smartphones from sometime now and it’s speculated that the Huawei P20 Pro could be priced around the same as competing flagship smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the iPhone 8, whereas the P20 Lite is rumoured to be priced around Rs 30,000. The smartphones cost EUR 899 (Rs 72,200 approx) and EUR 369 (Rs 29,300 approx) respectively in Europe.

Huawei P20 Pro Specifications

Coming to the specifications, the Huawei P20 Pro features a 6.1-inch full-HD+OLED FullView display with a 1080x2240p resolution and is powered by the octa-core Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC, which comes with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which takes care of AI-related tasks. The NPU is said to enable additional features on the device like improving system response and operation speed by up to 60 percent and up to 50 percent respectively. It is also touted to filter out noise from an ongoing call and help in image processing. Other AI customisations include 4D predictive focus, Master AI in camera for recognising over 500 scene types, AIS (AI based image stabilisation) and more. The smartphone runs on EMUI 8.1, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo and comes with deeper Google Assistant integration with customised commands for the device and ARCore support. The Huawei P20 Pro comes in a 4GB and 6GB RAM versions where both models sport 128GB of internal storage.

The highlight of the smartphone is the Huawei P20 Pro’s triple rear camera setup. The device is equipped with a 40 MP RGB 1/1.7-inch sensor, a 20 MP monochrome sensor and an 8MP sensor with a telephoto lens, which is capable of 3x optical zoom thanks to the new Leica lens. The rear camera also supports 5x lossless hybrid zoom, 3x optical zoom, 10x digital zoom, a laser transceiver for faster autofocus, a Leica colour temperature sensor along with a high sensitivity range of up to ISO 102400, which the company said is same as the Canon 5D Mark IV. On the front, it features a 24.8MP sensor, which supports 3D portrait lighting effect that allows adjusting the lighting in an image after one captures it. The device also comes with a 360-degree face unlock feature, which is said to unlock the device in mere 0.6 seconds.

The Huawei P20 Pro is powered by a 4000mAh battery and is IP67 certified dust and water resistant as well. The device supports Huawei’s “SuperCharge” fast charging technology, which claims to top up the device to 58 percent in 30 minutes and is also said to be a safe fast charging method. The P20 Pro is equipped with wireless Hi-Fi audio with HWA (Hi-Res Wireless Audio), which is capable of transmitting audio over Bluetooth on a 990Kbps bandwidth and comes with dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Dolby AC-4 audio support. The handset features a fingerprint sensor on the front despite a taller screen and it comes with gesture supports as well, allowing users to go back a screen with a short tap, long tap for home, and swiping left or right for multi-tasking.

In our first impressions of the smartphone we said, "Of all the smartphones that have been launched (or even announced) so far for 2018, the Huawei P20 Pro is easily the most distinguished of them all. It is evident that a lot of thought has gone into creating the P20 Pro and from what I have seen, we’re going to be talking about this phone for some time to come."
