Honor View 10 OTA update rolling out with Face ID, camera enhancements and more
HIGHLIGHTS

An OTA update for the Honor View 10 is rolling out to enable the face unlock feature along with some nifty AI-centric features and camera enhancements.

The Honor View 10 is slated to receive its AI superpowers in an upcoming OTA update. Huawei has announced that the update will bring the Face Unlock feature along with some more AI-centric features to the Honor View 10.

The OTA started rolling out on January 17 and will be available to all users by January 24. After the update, you can unlock the phone by looking at it. It works similarl to how face unlock works on the OnePlus 5T. The phone will not unlock if your eyes are closed. It is also not as secure as your fingerprint right now, so it won’t be used for online payments and the likes.

However, the face unlock feature will reveal notifications on the lockscreen after authenticating your face. After the update, the Honor View 10 will not turn off the display if you are looking at it but not interacting with the phone.

Additionally, the phone can detect the position of your head and can control the orientation. If you are lying down and looking at the phone, the display will not rotate and maintain the orientation.

The update also brings some nifty camera upgrades. You can now change the background of  your selfies. Motion detection is enabled for both the front and rear cameras. The feature essentially detects a moving object and captures the entire movement using machine learning. The camera will also leverage AI to enhance digitally zoomed images.

We have reviewed the Honor View 10 and found it to be quite the capacious high-end smartphone. It features the latest HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset that has a dedicated neural processing unit. It is also much cheaper at Rs 29,999 than its main rival , the OnePlus 5T which starts from Rs 32,999.

We have also pitched the Honor View 10 against the OnePlus 5T and did a full fledged comparison, which you can read here.
