Honor 10 receives new software update, gets Party Mode and camera improvements
HIGHLIGHTS

Honor's Party Mode is essentially a rudimentary surround-sound setup if you have more than one Honor 10 lying around.

Launched last month, the Huawei Honor 10 is now receiving a software update that introduces some notable improvements and a new app, reports Android Authority. Bearing the build number COL-L29 8.1.0.120, the new update brings a new functionality to the camera AI: when the default camera app is launched, the phone reads the scenery and indicates which effects it will use as a small text message on the display.

The fingerprint scanner has been updated as well. The Honor 10 now reads the accuracy of a recorded fingerprint and notifies the user if another scan is required for faster and easier authentication, especially in odd angles. In the case it is required, the user can delete and replace the fingerprint information currently saved.

A new app called Party Mode makes its way along with this update. The app connects to several other Honor 10 devices running the app via NFC and plays the same song simultaneously to give a faux surround-sound effect. The Honor View 10, which released earlier this year, is supposedly also getting the app. We don’t know at the moment if this Party Mode app will find its way to other Honor phones.

Other new changes in the software update include the May 2018 security patch, enhanced power consumption processes, a new live wallpaper, and a new UI theme. It’s worth noting that the HiCare app is no longer found in the Tools folder but on the home screen itself. The software update is expected to roll out in the coming weeks, but some users are reportedly receiving the update right now. We checked for the update on the Honor 10 in our labs and have not received the same yet.

Launched in May 2018, the Honor 10 sports a 24-megapixel and 16-megapixel camera combination. It also sports an f/1.8 aperture lens that helps in taking better images in low light conditions. It is powered by a  Kirin 970 SoC with an octa-core processor, and has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
