Apple is reportedly working on a new AI-powered feature to help improve battery life on iPhones, especially on its upcoming slimmed-down model, the iPhone 17 Air. This new feature will be part of iOS 19, which is expected to launch in September this year.
According to Bloomberg, iOS 19 will include a battery management mode that uses artificial intelligence to learn how you use your iPhone and adjust settings to save power. For example, it may reduce the power used by certain apps or features when it senses you don’t need them.

This feature is especially important for the iPhone 17 Air, which is rumoured to have a much thinner design than other models and as a result, a smaller battery. “By optimising battery life with AI, Apple is aiming to offset these physical constraints,” the report said. It’s worth noting that the feature will not be limited to just the iPhone 17 Air, all iPhones that get iOS 19 will be able to use it.

Apple is using battery usage data collected from users’ devices to develop this feature. The company also plans to add a lock screen indicator that will show users how much time is left for a full charge.
Apple is targeting the end of May to complete the first beta version of its upcoming operating systems. The company plans to unveil the beta to developers on June 9 during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). As usual, the public release is expected around September, aligning with the launch of the new iPhone and Apple Watch models.
