YouTube celebrates 57th anniversary of the first commercial video cassette recorder.
Google lets you walk down memory lanes and relieve some VHS-style videos on YouTube. The Internet giant has added a new feature, YouTube Tape Mode, which turns clips into the familiar 80s-style VHS copies. The new feature marks the 57th birthday of the first commercially available video cassette recorder, popularly known as VCR.
“Not too long ago, the video tape was the media of choice for living rooms around the world. In celebration of the 57th birthday of the first commercial video cassette recorder, check out a fun VHS mode for the YouTube player to relive the magic feel of vintage video tapes. On select videos, you’ll find a VHS button in the bottom right of the player–just click to turn back the clock and enjoy the static and fuzzy motion of the VHS era,” says Google in a post.
YouTube’s new feature appears to be available on certain videos only. Google hasn’t confirmed whether the feature will be available for more than one day or keep up forever.
That being said YouTube’s Tape Mode definitely makes you nostalgic as it shows the familiar noise, picture distortion and the occasional screen roll relieves. In the era of 3D and HD, YouTube Tape Mode is some fun.
