OpenAI has introduced its latest model dubbed O3-Pro. The new model is built on the capabilities of its predecessor O1 Pro, the new model aims to offer greater reliability, depth, and accuracy, specifically in domains like science, mathematics, programming, and education. However, the new model is only available for ChatGPT Pro users and API access starting June 10, 2025.
In a blog post, the company stated that the o3 Pro is a more refined version of OpenAI’s flagship o3 model and comes equipped with access to advanced tools, including web browsing, file analysis, Python execution, and image understanding. The company further added that due to the complexity of the processing and integrated toolset, the responses may take a slightly longer time to give compared to other models.
The company, according to its internal and academic evaluations, stated that its new model outperformed the O1 Pro and O3 in various categories. OpenAI also claimed that expert reviewers preferred it for its clarity, instruction-following, comprehensiveness, and accuracy.
One of the benchmarks used to validate its consistency is the “4/4 reliability” test, where o3-pro demonstrated its ability to correctly answer questions in all four test runs, the company added. This means that o3-pro is particularly useful for users working on complex problem-solving tasks where accuracy and reliability are more critical than speed.
Availability and limitations
All ChatGPT Pro and Team users can now access o3-pro through the model picker, which has replaced o1-pro. In the upcoming week, access is anticipated to be made available to enterprise and educational users. Due to ongoing technical improvements, o3-pro does not currently support temporary chats, image generation, or Canvas features.
Despite having the same core as the o3 model, OpenAI points out that o3-pro has improved fine-tuning, which makes it perfect for professional use cases in research, business, and creative writing.
